Our activities on the Mustang over the final few weeks before the 2011 AAPEX/SEMA show will be centered around the following:

Project 50 Fans--
Haynes is celebrating its 50th birthday as a company with Project 50--a complete restoration of a classic '65 Ford Mustang convertible! We're getting pretty close to the SEMA/AAPEX show where Project 50 will be shown in its fully restored state at our Haynes booth.

Activities over the next couple of weeks will be as follows:

Installing the convertible top
Fine-tuning the engine
Restoring the jack
Restoring spare wheel/tire
Installing windshield molding

Project 50 Activities for the weeks of August 1st and 8th

Hello Project 50 Fans:

Our activities over the next two weeks as we prepare our '65 Mustang restoration in time for the SEMA/AAPEX show in Las Vegas in November are as follows:

Spare wheel will be painted and the tire mounted
The jack will be restored
Under-dash courtesy light will be installed, wiring harness details finalized
Engine, start, cam break-in and tune-up

Be sure to watch us live during normal business hours on the Haynes P50 Mustang Live Garage Cam. You can always ask the Project 50 team a question about the work too!!

Project 50 Fans--
Our activities on the Haynes Project 50 Mustang Restoration will be the following over the next two weeks:

Install the radiator
Install the exhaust system
Rebuild the shifter
Clean-up and rebuild the driveshaft
Install the headlights
Install the transmission cooler lines

We hope you will continue to follow along with our progress as we go into the final stretch towards the 2011 AAPEX/SEMA show where our completed '65 Mustang will be shown.

Here are our Project 50 activities over the next two weeks:

4. Finish interior re-upholstery

Haynes Project 50 Update for the weeks of March 7th and 14th

Hello from the Haynes Project 50 Team! Over the next two weeks, we'll be working on the following as we restore a '65 Mustang convertible in time for the 2011 SEMA/AAPEX show:

1. The interior quarter trim panels and steering column shroud are being stripped and repainted.

2. The steering gearbox is being cleaned and resealed.

3. The front suspension components are being refinished and re-bushed.

4. The rebuilt engine is receiving its final touches: Wire-wheel and refinish the exhaust manifolds, install the new water pump and drive in the new freeze plugs.

An update for you on what's going on in the Haynes Project 50 garage for this week and next:

1. The suspension and rear axle are being assembled to the Mustang body. The body has just returned from the paint shop. Tell us how you like the color!

2. The Mustang transmission is being reassembled.

Hi, I read the article in Mustang Monthly about your restoration of a 1965 convertible. I just happen to have an exact copy of the car you are doing. Paint is Twilight Turquoise with a Standard Parchment (off white) with black apointment interior with white top. And, attached are some pictures of what it should look like when its done. I started with a red conv.also and found the original color under the front fenders. It has a 289 A code 4 bbl. with C4 auto transmisson, so I chose to put it back to originial too. My car was started as a restoration in 1991 by my brother for my father. Time and intrest slowed him down and in 1997 I took on the project in July 97 and had it ready for my father the following year (1998) for a Memorial Day parade in Salisbury. I don't know how the pictures will line up but 65 raw is how I got the car, 33 is like it is now with the original hub cap w/spinners. 65 Mustang was right after the job was complete my father wanted Crager wheels on it but later after they rusted we put the originals back on. P913, 914 were from the Memorial day parade. Good luck and I will be watching on your Haynes live cam of project 50.

New Project 50 Update for the weeks of Jan 31 and Feb 7!!

Activity for the week of January 31: The '65 Mustang body is being wet-sanded after the final primer coat.

Activity for the week of February 7: Application of the final body color coats will begin.

During both weeks, the transmission and driveline/suspension components will be re-assembled.

Project 50 Activities for weeks of Jan 17th and 24th

An update for you on the activities of Haynes Project 50 over this week and next:

The Mustang body will be in the first priming and block-sanding stage (of two total)
In the Haynes shop (you can watch during business hours via the Live Project 50 Mustang Garage Cam), the Project 50 team will be disassembling and polishing chrome and stainless steel body parts
Also in the Haynes shop, we will be overhauling the automatic transmission

Project 50 Activities for the weeks of January 3rd and 10th, 2011

Hello Project 50 Fans and Happy New Year! The Haynes Project 50 Team is making great progress on the restoration of the 1965 Mustang. Activities for the this week and next are the following:

The Mustang body is in the shop getting final preparations for the primer. Priming will be completed next week.
Suspension parts are being cleaned and will go out for powder coating shortly.
The Mustang engine is being re-assembled in our garage (see the Project 50 Live Mustang Garage Cam on this blog page to see LIVE work being done). The P50 Team is using new bearings, rings, pistons, camshaft, lifters and oil pump along with reconditioned connecting rods and crankshaft. The engine block has been bored and decked. And the cylinder heads have been reconditioned too.

Project 50 Activities for the next three weeks!

Week of December 13: The Haynes Project 50 Mustang body is at the paint/body shop and is being given an inital primer coat. In the Haynes Shop, interior parts are being sorted for re-use or replacement and parts lists are being developed.

Week of December 20: Body work is commencing at the paint/body shop. In the Haynes Shop, chassis and suspension parts are going to be painted.

Week of December 27: The Haynes Offices and Shop are closed for the holidays. We wish you all Happy Holidays from Haynes and the Project 50 Team!

During the week of Nov 29, the Haynes '65 Mustang will undergo cleaning and media blasting of the driveline and suspension components.

For the week of Dec 6, the Mustang body will have media blasting. Then, the Haynes Project 50 team wil reassemble the driveline and suspension components.

Project 50 Activities for the weeks of Nov 15th and 22nd

The Project 50 team is really making progress on the '65 Mustang Convertble restoration. The body and chassis are being media blasted during the weeks of Nov 15th and 22nd. During the week of Nov 15, the engine will be disassembled and inspected. The driveline and suspension components will be cleaned and inspected during the week of Nov 22.

While part of the Haynes crew is at the Las Vegas 2010 AAPEX/SEMA show, the Project 50 team will be hard at work on the '65 Mustang restoration. We will be sending the Mustang "shell" out for media blasting in preparation for painting. And, back in the Haynes garage, there will be engine and suspension part disassembly. Project 50 activities include disassembly of the Mustang's suspension, rear axle, steering column, wiring, deck lid and fuel tank.
